The SX series allows for long range surveillance of many vital areas such as borders, harbors, maritime, airports and vital infrastructure facilities. In addition it is also possible to shoot small and fast moving targets such as drones using the ultra high speed AF.

The SX series allows you to take advantage of the telephoto performance to quickly confirm and monitor disasters such as forest fires, flood & eruptions from a safe & remote location. This could prove vital when human lives may be in harms way.

The long range capabilities of the SX series can provide a new expressive style in a wide range of "entertainment" fields such as long-range photography, astronomical observation, sports & sightseeing spots that are limited by conventional cameras.

Features

Optical telephoto range 1600mm (with digital zoom up to 3200mm, 160x zoom)
The SX1600 is equipped with a 40x optical zoom lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths from 40mm on the wide angle end to 1600mm on the super-telephoto end. The effective area of the image on the sensor can be extended to 1.1" and widened to 20mm, a focal length similar to that of the SX800. Combined with a digital zoom of up to 2x, this enables a zoom range from a wide angle of 20mm to a telephoto of 3200mm equivalent (160x zoom). When the effective area is extended, higher resolution images over Full HD (1920x1080) can be resized and processed to provide higher quality, clearer images.

High-performance image stabilization
The combination of optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS) helps accurately compensate for image blur caused by the wind or vibration. The SX1600 coordinates and controls these to help compensate for a wider range of vibration frequencies.

Shooting in the dark
The high-sensitivity sensor and high noise reduction effect enable you to shoot clear images with little noise even in low-light shooting environments.

High speed AF system
The "rear focus system" that drives the small-diameter lens in the rear lens group at high speed is adopted, realizing high-speed AF with a minimum autofocus time of about 0.1 seconds. By combining the "image plane phase detection AF" and "contrast AF" methods, it automatically switches to the optimal AF setting.

Fog reduction
Image processing technology compensates for heat haze caused by temperature differences in the air as well as fog caused by water droplets and dust floating in the air. This helps mitigate these atmospheric conditions to help achieve clearer images. The built-in visible cut filter "black glass" makes it possible to shoot with near-infrared light that travels in a straight line so you can achieve better images in the most challenging environments.
