The Samyang 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS is an ultra wide-angle manual focus lens designed for CS / cropped sensors or APS-C format cameras.
It is a rectilinear image design, offering superb image quality and low distortion and is perfectly suited to cropped sensor cameras for landscape and general photography requiring a high quality wide angle lens. The large f/2 aperture allows for low light photography using faster shutter speeds and also gives more control over depth of field by allowing shallower depth of field images.
Optical construction comprisess 13 elements in 11 groups, with 2 aspherical lenses for high image clarity, 1 Extra-low Dispersion (ED) element for low chromatic aberration, and one hybrid aspherical lens. It also features Samyang's UMC (Ultra Multi Coating) which ensures superb transmission of light, and minimises flare and ghosting. The elements are housed in a solid body weighing typically just under 600g, dependent on mount.
The 16mm focal length is equivalent to a 24mm lens on a 35mm camera when used with APS-C sized sensors, 25.6mm on Canon EOS (1.6x crop factor), and 32mm on Olympus and Panasonic MFT sensor system cameras.
The Samyang 16mm f/2.0 AS UMC lens accepts 77mm filters to attach ND, polarisers or any filter with a 77mm filter thread. It also features a wide, ribbed manual focus ring which has smooth and well-damped focusing action. This provides a positive manual focus, particularly suitable for more professional videoing / filming with DSLR’s where manual focus is preferred, enabling focus pulling whilst video recording.
